Artwork Description

Did you know that Orangutans share the same 97% DNA as humans?  A tiny difference creates a huge difference.

This artwork converts visitors into orangutans, as a simple symbolic transformation to encourage visitors to feel in others’ shoes.  We all have emotions, we all want to survive, we all want to be loved.  Open your eyes and see that every animal is someone.

The Artist

Andy Stokes is a creative technologist and passionate advocate for environmental conservation. As the Head of Creative Technologies at ALAN, he continually pushes the boundaries of emerging technologies. In 2023, he spearheaded the development of a groundbreaking mixed reality application for Symphilia at Blutopia, a digital art aquarium. This immersive experience seamlessly blended physical and virtual artwork within a VR headset, earning the Muse Golden Award for VR and AR Experience.

His dedication to animal welfare and environmental sustainability led him to co-found the Last Straw movement in 2016, a pioneering initiative at the time in Hong Kong to eradicate single-use plastic straws from the city’s food and beverage industry.
