Ocean (Re)imagination
This AI generative artwork draws its inspiration from a scientific project focused on marine biodiversity conducted by the Swire Institute of marine science (SWIMS). MarineGEO scientists at SWIMS study how various water conditions impact the marine ecosystem by submerging these eight-level plates, called Autonomous Reef Monitoring Structures (ARMS), into Hong Kong Waters. These structures replicate the natural seabed habitat, enabling the collection of marine life samples. After a designated period, the arms are retrieved and disassembled to examine the organism that have taken residence. Additionally, researchers placed the plates in separate water tanks, each with distinct environmental conditions, to investigate the effects on the marine ecosystem.
What’s truly astonishing is that these plates have reviewed new species previously undocumented by science. This discovery highlights the vast gaps in our understanding of the oceans mysteries. This at work is Yuki‘s creative response to this remarkable findings. Leveraging AI, visualise how these newly discovered species might appear. Well is the full revelation of new life forms, it also serve us a poignant reminder of the many unseen species that may have vanished before we even knew they existed.
