ALAN commissioned artwork in 2025
Artwork Description
This artwork takes a light‑hearted approach to shifting our perspective on bird droppings. Often dismissed as a nuisance, they are in fact a natural part of life worldwide — and in some cultures, even considered signs of good luck, small blessings rather than inconveniences.
Here, that idea is playfully turned on its head. This may be the most sought‑after bird dropping in the city. Drawing on the joy of chance and the surprise of blind‑box collectibles, the installation invites visitors to embrace randomness. Passersby “hit” by the bird are deemed lucky, receiving a dropping that contains a short piece of wisdom for the day —something to smile at, reflect on, or take along.
Through humor and surprise, the work gently asks: if we can laugh at a little mess, could we also reconsider how perspective shapes our actions? Perhaps the continued presence of birds—and yes, even bird poop—is part of what makes a city truly alive.
